Markets
For publishers who sell abroad. Markets is off until you turn it on, and you can leave it off.
A market is a group of countries you sell to, like "UK" or "Europe". You set up markets in Shopify itself (Settings, then Markets). The app never creates, changes or deletes a market.
Stison hold sales rights for each edition: either world, or a list of countries it can and can't be sold to. A US-only edition, for example, can be sold in the United States and nowhere else. Stison also hold prices in other currencies, such as US dollars or euros. The app stores both on every edition whether Markets is on or off. Turning Markets on is what puts them to use.
Turning it on
Read this first if you already have markets set up. Turning Markets on changes your existing markets: the app adds your Stison titles to each market's catalog, takes out titles a market can't have, and sets Stison's prices on it. Anything you've set up for your Stison titles by hand in those markets can be overwritten.
In the app, open Markets. Read the red warning, tick the box to confirm, then click Turn Markets on. The first update of your markets starts straight away, and you can watch it under Progress.

What it does
Checkout refuses editions a buyer's country can't have
If a customer tries to buy an edition that can't be sold to their country, checkout stops and tells them the title "is not available for sale in your country." For a printed book the country is where it's being delivered. Ebooks and audiobooks have no delivery address, so for those it's the country the customer is shopping from.
An edition with no sales rights in Stison is never blocked.
Each market gets a catalog
A catalog is the list of products a market can buy. If a market doesn't have one yet, the app makes one that starts with all your products, so nothing that already sold there stops selling.
The app then keeps your Stison titles in each market's catalog, and takes a title out of a market when no edition of it may be sold to any country in that market. For example, if every edition of a title is UK and Ireland only, it comes out of your US market. The page lists these under "Out of" and the market's name.
Prices per currency come from Stison
If a market sells in a currency Stison give prices in, those prices are set on the market's catalog. So a book with a US dollar price in Stison sells at that price in your US market, rather than a converted pound price. An edition with no price in that currency is converted from your shop's own currency at Shopify's rate. A market in your shop's own currency just uses the normal price.
Your other products are never touched
Only your Stison titles are ever added, removed or priced. Anything else in your catalogue, and any prices you've fixed yourself, are left as they are.
When it runs
After every file from Stison that writes titles to your shop, and whenever you click Sync all markets now.
Reading the page
- Checkout validation active: the checkout check is on. If it says "not active", it didn't switch on, and the reason shows at the top of the page.
- The Markets table: for each market, how many products are in, how many are out, its currency, and whether prices are fixed from Stison or converted.
- Some markets could not be synced: a market the app couldn't update, with the reason. Other markets and your feed carry on as normal.
- Contradictory rights: editions Stison mark as both for sale and not for sale in the same country. The app treats those countries as not for sale. Fix them in Stison.
Turning it off
Click Turn Markets off. The checkout check stops and the app stops updating markets. Catalogs, and the prices set on them, are left exactly as they are, because taking them apart could break how you've set up your markets. Turn it on again and it carries on from where it was.
